FAQ about McDowell-Nearing House Bed and Breakfast for First-Time B&B Goers

Do you have private bathrooms?

Yes. Each bedroom has its own attached bathroom. Two of our bathrooms have whirlpool tubs.

Is there a curfew?

No. The front door has a combination keypad lock. You can come and go as you please.

Does the innkeeper live in the B&B?

Yes. My quarters are on the first floor in the rear and separate from the common guest areas. The guest rooms are all on the second floor. The parlor, library and breakfast room are for the enjoyment of our guests.

What about TV's?

Each room has a flat screen TV with multiple channels per ATT U-verse. There is a DVD player and an iPod dock in each room. There is also a DVD library in the common area. We've tried to anticipate your need for electric outlets and provide a surge protected outlet strip in each room.

Is there broadband access for my computer?

Yes. We have free WiFi that is password protected. If you want to leave yours at home, there is a netbook in the library that can be used to check email. We can print boarding passes if needed on the printer in the office.

Do I have to pack my own shampoo and hair dryer?

Each room has a hairdryer and a make-up mirror. We also provide soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion from Lather Skin Care products. Each room also has an iron, ironing board and robe.

What time is Breakfast?

A three course breakfast is served when you want it at our communal breakfast table. The breakfast selections are cook's choice so be sure to let us know if you have a food allergy or other dietary restrictions. Sometimes you will meet other guests at the table, many times not. Breakfast conversation around the table can be interesting. Please don't feel intimidated. If you prefer to eat in your room that can be arranged.

Do you serve other meals?

County ordinance restricts us to serving only breakfast to registered guests. Our kitchen is inspected by the county health department twice a year. A microwave, refrigerator and one-cup coffee maker are available 24/7. The refrigerator is stocked with water and sodas, granola bars, popcorn, cocoa mix and home-made cookies are available.

Have you passed any other types of inspections.

As a member of the Indiana Bed and Breakfast Association, this property is inspected biennually.

How long is the drive to the bed and breakfast from the Indianapolis Airport?

We're 80 miles from the new airport terminal. Allow a minimum of 95 minutes to get here.

How far are you located from Ball State University?

We are a mile from the main campus and 4 blocks from Scheumann Stadium.

How far are you from Downtown Muncie and the Horizon Convention Center?

We're about 5-8 minutes from Downtown Muncie by car. The city bus stop is 3 blocks away.

Can I bring my pet?

McDowell-Nearing House does not allow animal guests. There are no animals on the premises

What if I smoke?

No smoking is allowed inside the building both by county ordinance and by the innkeeper's choice. Smoking is permitted on the front porch and an ash tray is provided.

How about candles?

No open flames are allowed in the B&B.
